Benefit Specialist Services

Benefit specialists are advocates trained to help senior citizens age 60 or older gain access to entitlements, benefits, and legal rights.  Benefit Specialists are often referred to as “red tape cutters” because they are experts in helping senior citizens with the extensive and complicated paperwork that is often required for public and private benefit programs.

Benefit Specialists receive in-depth, on-going training in the areas of benefit and entitlement programs, as well as a host of other issues affecting older adults, including but not limited to:

-Medicare

-Medicare Supplement Insurance

-Private Health Insurance Issues

-Medical Assistance

-Social Security

-Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

-Foodshare

-Housing concerns

Landlord/tenant rights

Housing improvements (loans and grants)

            -Consumer Issues

            -Prescription Drug Assistance Programs

            -Homestead Tax Credit

Completion of Homestead Tax Credit Forms

Limited Information and assistance with Federal and State Tax Credit

            -Financial Exploitation

-Provide Power of Attorney for Health Care and Property

and Finance forms

Referrals can also be made to resources outside the Benefit Specialist Program areas of expertise.

Confidentiality will be maintained.  The confidentiality standards for Wisconsin Benefit Specialist Program are derived from two primary sources—the Older American Act (OAA) and the Wisconsin Supreme Courts Rules of Professional Responsibility.

There is no charge for the services but persons assisted by the program are encouraged to make a donation.  All donated funds will be used to expand the Benefit Specialist Program.  Call 672-5333 for Benefit Specialist Services.
