Transportation
Availability Transportation services are available on a regular basis Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. However, we will attempt to provide transportation at other times and days (including weekends and holidays) when it is possible to line up a driver. Transportation is provided for all purposes such as medical, social, and personal business. Trips are provided to many surrounding areas. Requests for transportation can be made by calling 672-8936 for Arkansaw/Durand area and 442-2289 for Pepin/Stockholm area.
Types of Transportation The transportation programs has 4 types of vehicles:
Cost The cost of providing transportation is divided between the passenger and county/state transportation funds. Eligible passengers pay a co-payment charge per mile with the county/state subsidy covering the rest of the cost. Mileage is to and from the starting place of the driver. The co-payment charges are reduced per person when more than one passenger (car pooling) is transported at the same time. There is a co-payment coverage limit of 60 miles (round trip) for social purpose trips. Customers who are on Medical Assistance and use the Transportation Program for approved medical trips are not subject to the Senior Services Co-Payment charges. However, the Medical Assistance Program may require co-payments. Also, passengers using the van, wheelchair vans, or mini bus are charged a percentage of the drivers waiting time (if there is any). Tipping is not allowed. This is a county policy. Instead, a passenger can donate to the Transportation Program.
Co-Payment Eligibility Persons are eligible for co-payment rates if they meet all of the following criteria:
Waiver of co-payment is possible on an individual basis and requires the approval of Senior Services. When a waiver is granted, a donation amount (if any) is negotiated.
Driver Qualifications Drivers receive training in defensive driving, first aid, passenger assistance techniques, and other related topics. Also, drivers must have and maintain a good driving record, proper insurance coverage, and good physical health. Wheelchair van drivers are certified in First Aid and CPR.
