OUR MISSION:

To provide and protect the integrity of the official county repository for:

  • Real Estate Records (Deeds, Land Contracts, Mortgages, Plats, Certified Survey Maps, Federal Tax Liens, etc.)
  • Vital Records (Birth, Death, Marriage, Divorce, Domestic Partnerships and Military Discharges)

To provide safe archival storage and convenient access to these public records.

To implement statutory changes, system modernization, program and procedure evaluation and staff development to assure a high level of timely customer service.

 

NOTICES / DISCLAIMERS:

  • The Register of Deeds office is not allowed to give legal advice.  Therefore, we do not provide services for real estate searches nor can we draft documents or interpret the meaning of documents.  We highly recommend you seek the advice of an attorney or title company.
  • If there is a recorded document that is not available online, please contact the Register of Deeds office so we can try to accommodate your request as some documents need to be fully processed before they can be released for purchase.
  • The cut-off time for recording documents is 3:30PM daily.  Documents received after 3:30PM will be processed on the next business day.
  • The cut-off time for processing vital records is 4:00PM daily.
  • Recorded Real Estate Documents will only be returned to submitters by providing a SASE for a hard copy or an e-mail address for a PDF copy.

LAREDO – This website is for daily users with a monthly subscription to search for documents on-line.   Typically used by title companies, attorneys, surveyors, etc.   Please contact the Register of Deeds office if you would like to sign up for a subscription.

TAPESTRY EON – This website is for the occasional user to search for documents on-line.  The fee structure is "pay per search" with a credit card.

REGISTER OF DEEDS FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

PROPERTY FRAUD ALERT  -  Protect your most valuable investment and sign up for Property Fraud Alert.  It is a free service offered to Pepin County property owners.  This online alert system monitors your name in the Register of Deeds office and tracts possible fraudulent recordings.  You will be notified by email or phone of any new recordings using your name.   

 

VITAL RECORDS:  The Pepin County Register of Deeds office issues certified copies of Birth, Death, Marriage, Divorce and Domestic Partnership, either in person or by mail.  

Birth Certificates:  Wisconsin Birth Certificates may be obtained from any Register of Deeds office in the State of Wisconsin.
Death Certificates:  Deaths that occurred in Pepin County prior to September 1, 2013, must be obtained from our office.  Deaths that occurred after September 1, 2013, may be obtained from any Register of Deeds office in the State of Wisconsin.
Marriage Certificates:  Wisconsin Marriage Certificates may be obtained from any Register of Deeds office in the State of Wisconsin.
Divorce Certificates:  For Divorces that occurred in Pepin County prior to January 1, 2016, contact the Pepin County Clerk of Court’s Office.  For Divorces that occurred after January 1, 2016, certificates may be obtained from any Register of Deeds office in the State of Wisconsin.  

 

INSTRUCTIONS TO OBTAIN A CERTIFIED VITAL RECORD:

  1. Complete the application form thoroughly.  Don’t forget to sign and date!
  2. Include a copy of your valid Driver’s License or other identification.  (See acceptable identification listed on the back of the application form.)
  3. Include payment of $20.00 for the first certificate plus $3.00 for each additional certificate of the same request.
  4. Make check/money order payable to:  “Pepin County – ROD”
  5. Mail completed application form, copy of ID and payment to:  Pepin County Register of Deeds – 740 7th Avenue West – PO Box 39 – Durand, WI  54736-0039

 

RECORDING FEE INFORMATION

COPY FEES: 

Uncertified Copies of recorded documents:  $2.00 for the 1st page + $1.00 for each additional page

Certified Copies of recorded documents:  $2.00 for the 1st page + $1.00 for each additional page + $1.00 to certify

VITAL RECORDS FEE:
Birth, Death, Marriage, Divorce Certificates:  $20.00 for the 1st certificate + $3.00 for each additional certificate of the same request

PAYMENT METHODS:
Recording Documents:  We accept cash or checks/money orders payable to: "Pepin County - ROD"
Copies & Vital Records:  We accept cash, checks/money orders payable to: "Pepin County - ROD" or credit/debit cards
