$21.02 - $ 24.02 (Highway Maintenance) per hour.

Hours:

Monday through Thursday 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Position Objectives:

The position is responsible for road maintenance and operating various highway construction equipment and does other related work under the supervision of the Foremen.

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Plow and shovel snow, sand, and salt roadways, and put up and take down snow fence.
  • Patch road surface; crack road joints, etc.
  • Grade and gravel road shoulders to repair washouts.
  • Pick up litter and trash.
  • Clean up and maintain roadside park areas.
  • Repair, replace and maintain marker posts and guard rails. Mow right of ways, cut brush.
  • Clean drains and culverts.
  • Flag traffic.
  • Drive and operate dump trucks for construction and winter maintenance
  • Operates heavy equipment, such as motor graders, dozers, and other construction equipment; (desired but not required)
  • Ability to actively operate heavy equipment includes wage incentive
  • Must be available for call-in for winter snow and ice removal and other emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Must have a valid Class A, B and C Commercial Driver’s License with air brake, and “N” (tank) endorsement preferred, and safe driving record.

 

Minimum Requirements:

Highway Patrolman-Maintenance

Knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in highway construction and maintenance.  Knowledge and ability to follow the State Maintenance Manual when maintaining State Highways/ Must have the ability to work unsupervised in an efficient manner; Skill in the operation of multi-purpose motorized equipment; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to recognize and make minor repairs to the highway that may be needed during the course of the day; Ability to make adjustments of equipment; Must be dependable and in good physica condition.  Knowledge of occupational hazards and safe work practices.  Demonstrate ability to keep records for time, equipment and materials on his assignment.  This position requires a valid  Class A, B, C Commercial Driver’s License, with “N” tank endorsement preferred.  Prefer residence within a (10) ten-mile radius of the reporting shop, Pepin or Arkansaw, WI. 

Desirable Training and Experience:

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

 

Some experience performing laboring tasks in the operation of road equipment and in road construction of maintenance and completion of a standard high school course; or any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

  

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS

 

Ability to safely lift up to 100 pounds occasionally and up to 50 pounds frequently is required.  Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, and kneeling required.  Ability to work outdoors with exposure to outdoor elements (hot, cold, wet, etc.)
